S.O. Decker started Decker Equipment Co. in downtown Sherwood in 1914. He passed it onto his son Bernard in 1928, who subsequently passed it over to his two sons Ned and David Decker. The Decker brothers not only ran the equipment dealership, but also added on a Chevrolet dealership. The dealerships were together in Sherwood until Ned moved the Chevrolet dealership to Defiance in 1965. Today that Chevrolet dealership is still in business, operating as Estle Chevrolet Cadillac.
David Decker operated the International Harvester dealership in downtown Sherwood until the early ‘80’s. At that time, a new building was built at the current location on State Route 18 on the edge of town. David continued to run the business until his passing in 1991. Archbold Equipment Company’s General Manager Daryl Nofziger had met with David one time three months prior to Dave’s passing, and had discussed buying the business from the Decker family. Archbold Equipment eventually purchased much of the inventory at an auction and later purchased the business itself in 1993.
